Dry eye syndrome is a common condition that affects as many as 10 million people…
Astigmatism is a common condition that usually occurs when the cornea is irregularly shaped. Instead of being round, it is oval shaped, which causes blurred vision. Most people have some degree of astigmatism and don’t notice. In many cases eyeglasses or contact lenses are enough to correct the condition. If it is too severe surgery may be necessary.
Limbal Relaxing Incision
The procedure used at Clark Tait Eye Center to treat astigmatism is called a limbal relaxing incision. This is a quick, nearly painless procedure in which the cornea is reshaped to make it round instead of oval. Topical anesthesia is used and two incisions are made at the edge of the cornea to shape it. The procedure takes about five minutes and vision will improve within 48 hours.
